There is a Better Way
This campaign aims to bring about change in how unions respond to the crisis we face. So far we have seen little evidence of any fresh thinking, no evidence of being connected to reality. We believe it's time for a reality check..
Where are the plans to protect peoples' jobs by getting Ireland's cost base down? Or create new employment rather than concentrating it in the public sector? Where are the plans to protect peoples' homes from repossession by getting on with the business of market clearance? And where are the plans to protect vital services by lowering the total costbase of vital service providers?
The course of action proposed by unions is all about borrowing from tomorrow to pay for an inefficient and bloated public service today. The unions say that "To cut peoples' incomes in a recession invites economic freefall". The economy is already in freefall and the only way out is to cut the cost base for the country as a whole, moreso for the public sector.
This crisis demands fresh thinking. So far all we've seen are reruns and reheats of the same failed red dawn attitudes.
